About Us

Our Vision

Our vision is to
RESTORE lives affected by homelessness,
REBUILD community and
RENEW broken systems
so that everyone in our community has a home in which they can flourish.

Our Mission:

To support single adults in Newham, affected by homelessness, providing:
PURPOSE – to encourage purposeful lives, involving excitement, fun, learning, training, volunteering and employment.
BELONGING – to nurture community, providing daytime places of advice, support and opportunity, partnering with other expert agencies.
SAFETY – joining with churches and the people of Newham to provide cold weather shelter, and safe homes in which to heal and thrive.

Vision

Our Values:

LOVE – to love in all its fullness, with kindness, grace & truth
WELCOME – our welcome is bigger than our rules. We encourage behaviour that is
kind & respectful
EMPOWERMENT: – We want everyone to develop their strengths and skills. We won’t do for others what they can do for themselves, but we love to support and encourage all we can.

We encourage all to hold boundaries, and we encourage guests to take responsibility, recognising our role is to help people to help themselves. We seek to manage behaviour in an appropriate and compassionate way, and are willing to step back when a guest is not willing to move forward.

We work in an open and honest way, seeking to build trust with all we encounter. We value partnerships, recognising the synergy between our work and sharing our resources where we are able. We value honesty and are clear with guests and partners about what we can do, and what we cannot do.

“I will tell you the kind of day I want—a day to set people free. I want a day that you take the burdens off others. I want a day when you set troubled people free and you take the burdens from their shoulders. I want you to share your food with the hungry.

I want you to find the poor who don’t have homes and bring them into your own homes. When you see people who have no clothes, give them your clothes! Don’t hide from your relatives when they need help.”

Isaiah 58: 6-7

“We love because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:19

Meet The Team

NEWway is made up of local people who care deeply about their community. We come from diverse backgrounds, and many of us have been affected by social injustice—whether through our own hardship or by witnessing family members, friends, or neighbours face challenging times. We are driven by a passion to help everyone feel seen, heard, respected, and welcome, especially those on the margins of society. We know homelessness can happen to anyone, and our aim is to lift people up, restore their dignity, and support them to rebuild their lives.

The NEWway family includes our Trustee Board, paid staff, dedicated winter night shelter volunteers, former and current guests, and many supporters who generously give their time, expertise, and resources to help us deliver our services.

Our Board of Trustees has five members and two advisory members. They are led by our Chair, Matthew Porter. Most live in Newham and maintain strong connections with the voluntary sector through their professional roles, faith communities, or volunteering activities. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge in community building, business development, finance, commissioning, the corporate sector, and lived experience.

The operational work is run by the paid staff:

Angie – NEWway Director

Abbie – NEWway Day Services Manager

Ami and Mark – Faith and Accommodation Managers

Aggie – Finance and Admin Manager

Kim, Sheron, and Tom – NEWway Caseworkers

Alex – Tenancy Sustainment Caseworker

Jonny – Education, Training and Education Development Manager

Rahel – Hospitality Assistant
